Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
