'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith continues contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the dramatic dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a spectator's eyewear amid the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative shot from distance, and the defender immediately converted the rebound before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This capped an unbelievable comeback given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the delirium, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win booked a upcoming fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the City players who complimented the way his former team approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they always find their target and they understand how to manage and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a spell at League Two the Manchester club, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, shining for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including both legs encounters against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his eye for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This represents an incredible journey for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who grew up watching his parent, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they played on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "This represented a long trip and it was cold out there," he comments, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a small coach driven by club employees, the transport team, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on London's Central line after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
